Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal survived Tuesday's busy trade deadline and remains in the "Motor City." The southpaw left his most recent outing on Monday early due to arm fatigue though and will now miss at least the next couple of weeks.
The Tigers have announced the following roster moves:
— Tigers PR (@DetroitTigersPR) August 3, 2022
*Placed LHP Tarik Skubal on the 15-day IL, retroactive to Aug. 2, with left arm fatigue
*Reinstated RHP Wily Peralta from the 15-day IL
*Optioned INF Zack Short to Triple A Toledo
*Recalled OF Daz Cameron from Triple A Toledo
Although Skubal told reporters following Monday's game that he expected his next start, the Tigers apparently want to play it safe with the 25-year-old. Detroit comes into action on Wednesday with a 42-63 record and well out of the playoff picture.
The Seattle University product has been one of the lone bright spots for the Tigers this year, as despite his 7-8 record, Skubal also holds a career-best 3.52 ERA and 1.15 WHIP while striking out 117 batters over 117 2/3 innings pitched in 21 starts. Skubal leads all Detroit players with his 1.6 wins above replacement (WAR), and he leads all pitchers in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts as well.
The lefty is the latest in a long list of members of the team's starting rotation to hit the IL. Others currently on the shelf include Michael Pineda, Beau Briske and Rony Garcia, while Matt Manning just made his first start in nearly four months on Tuesday due to right shoulder and biceps issues.
