'The voice of a golden era': Boston Bruins honor Jack Edwards as he announces retirement after ‘19-year-long joyride’

He thanked the fans and Bruins for the “19-year-long joyride” and the love and support he received from everyone including his family. His era of sitting “high above the ice” has now come to an end as he states,

I recently decided that the time has come for me to finish my shift as the voice of the Boston Bruins. I am no longer able to attain the standards I set for myself, to honor the fans, the players, the Bruins organization and NESN with the best they all deserve. Edward’s partner Brickley expressed how his retirement news “just kind of floored me.” They’ve been partners since 2005. Brickley mentions how “he drew the emotion out of me” despite him being the quiet one in the locker room. B’s fans will surely miss his voice in the upcoming season as Edwards has been with them for over a decade.

Jack Edwards reveals real reason behind his retirement

Jack Edwards reveals that he has been having problems with speech and it has been one of the reasons behind his retirement. He said that his speech problems started mysteriously and despite all medical tests, there were no negative reports.

He noted how he had undergone 40 minutes of speech therapy every day to cure his problem but found it “not fair for me to continue” when he’s not recovering to his 100% state.

Edwards also confirmed that he did not have any accident which may have triggered his symptoms. He noted how his wife “can’t stand it” seeing him suffering and “has to leave the room.” After his retirement, he plans to enjoy his time skiing on the Vermont Hills and spend more time with family and friends.
